Pre-school and Junior Kindergarten Program

Sandbox Tech Child Care's Pre-school and Junior Kindergarten Program focuses on four important developmental components. They are: Social-Emotional, Cognitive, Creative, and Physical development.

Social-Emotional Development

Children gain independence and self-control by learning to trust others and by learning the appropriate ways to take initiative while respecting others. Children are also encouraged to make decisions, use reasoning skills, practice listening, explore their environment and express, understand and handle their feelings.

Children learn to be responsible by tidying up after themselves and are guided to expand their attention by choosing to persevere at specific tasks for extended times. Sandbox Tech focuses on helping young children gain self-esteem, exhibit positive attitudes and demonstrate pro-social behaviour, as well as encouraging co-operation instead of competition.

Cognitive Development

Sandbox Tech focuses on helping young children acquire problem solving skills, expand logical thinking skills, expand verbal communications skills, develop writing skills, and begin reading using phonics. When the children are ready we introduce them to work sheets and workbooks for their academic level. We teach children the sounds of the letters, so they can put the letter sounds together to make words and then to read. Before you know it the children are also spelling!! This is all done in a fun and relaxed manner.

Children learn by doing, and at Sandbox Tech they will learn simple concepts, which they build on to tackle bigger and more complex tasks and ideas. By using their senses, toddlers and pre-schoolers discover that objects have weight, volume, colour and texture.

Pre-schoolers and kindergartners learn by interacting with materials and with other people.

Creative Development

Creativity is one of our most important assets. Without it we probably would not be here today. At Sandbox Tech children are encouraged to be creative. With creativity there is no right or wrong way. It is the child's idea that counts.

Physical Development

Motor development includes activities like throwing, catching, skipping (without ropes) climbing and balancing. We provide a safe space, equipment and plenty of time for children to practice new skills. Mastering gross motor skills leads to the ability to gain fine muscle control and co-ordination.
